History of FUPFA

The Friends of the UP Foundation in America (FUPFA) is a California nonprofit public benefit corporation aimed at helping the University of the Philippines in their fund-raising activities in the United States.

Established in 1982 during then-UP President Edgardo J. Angara’s term, FUPFA operated with seven trustees namely 1.) President Angara, 2.) Juan Collas, 3.) Vicente Limcaoco, 4.) Teresita Marzan, 5.) Reginaldo Picache, 6.) Ramon Quesada, Jr., and 7.) Rafael Salas. Later the By-Laws were amended so that the number of members of the Board of Trustees was increased to fifteen (15) and the composition of the Board was left to the discretion of the University President.

Succeeding UP Presidents Jose V. Abueva, Emil Q. Javier, Francisco Nemenzo and centennial President Emerlinda R. Roman have continued the work to further strengthen FUPFA’s role as a major fund-gathering organization for the university by enjoining alumni and alumni organizations in the United States to establish their projects through FUPFA.

As FUPFA is 501(c)3 accredited, donations made through the foundation by United States residents are tax-deductible.

Currently, FUPFA’s principal office is located at:
