The University has good reason to celebrate. Of the ten honorees in this year’s The Outstanding Women in the Nation’s Service (TOWNS) awards, seven are from UP. Five of them are currently professors and researchers in different units: Dr. Alyssa Peleo-Alampay of the UP Diliman (UPD) National Institute of Geological Sciences (NIGS); Dr. Glecy Cruz Atienza of the UPD College of Arts and Letters (CAL); Dr. Eva Ma. Cutiongco-dela Paz of the UP Manila National Institutes of Health (NIH); Dr. Corazon de Ungria of the UPD Natural Sciences Research Institute (NSRI); and Dr. Dina Ocampo of the UPD College of Education.
Two of them are UP alumnae: Dr. Hilly Anne Roa-Quiaoit earned her master’s degree at the UPD Marine Science Institute, while Maria Ressa took her graduate studies at the UPD College of Mass Communication and even taught at the college from 1987 to 1991.
